Black Economic Empowerment in Nedbank – 2010 Report

The black economic empowerment (BEE) framework initiated by the Broad‐Based Black Economic Empowerment Act (2003) (BBBEE Act) has put in place seven basic elements to address economic and social inequities, thereby assisting broader transformation as measured by the overarching guidelines of the Codes of Good Practice (the Codes).

The Codes provide a core set of indicators and criteria to define and measure BBBEE. The BBBEE Act also requires the Codes to provide guidelines on how to achieve meaningful, effective BBBEE. Central to the Codes is a balanced‐scorecard approach, which measures an enterprise's BBBEE contribution across a range of indicators.
