CORPORATE SOCIAL INVESTMENT

The year under review was characterised by a further deterioration of the Zimbabwean economy, which threatened the viability of all business entities. Despite the challenging prevailing economic and political environment, MBCA Bank engaged in the following corporate social investment activities:

 

ARTS

Harare International Festival of the Arts
The festival is an annual event in celebration of the cultural diversity of the arts in Zimbabwe, which has earned global recognition. MBCA Bank sponsored the sixth Bulawayo Music Festival, which took place May 2008. The principal object of the festival is to performances of great music to the highest international standards, and the second objective is to give a platform to deserving local musical talent and to create large-scale community involvement.

 

ENTERPRISE DEVELOPMENT

Students in Free Enterprise
MBCA Bank again sponsored the Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) national competition which, on 5 July 2008, saw the University of Zimbabwe SIFE team taking top honours and qualifying to go to Singapore to represent the country in the SIFE 2008 World Cup. Sponsorship of this event by MBCA Bank represents our commitment to supporting sustainable development projects in the communities we serve.

HIV/AIDS

Turnall Holdings Limited
Donations were made to sponsor the organisation’s golf tournament, the proceeds of which benefit children orphaned by HIV/Aids in Rushinga.
 
St Giles Charity Dinner Dance
MBCA Bank sponsored a dinner and made a donation towards the renovation and reopening of the
14-bed ward at St Giles Medical Rehabilitation Centre.

 

EDUCATION

Dominican Convent School
Donations were made towards the annual fundraising golf day in aid of sustainable development projects at the school.
 
Alexander Park School Golf Day
The MBCA Bank team played in the event and made a donation towards the upkeep of the school.
