2008 HIGHLIGHTS AND HAPPENINGS
- Service excellence was again recognised by Nedbank clients who voted the bank as having the best service levels for the second year running in the 2008 Ask Afrika Orange Index.
- Nedbank continued to build on its AskOnce service promise with phase 2 of the programme rolled out to clients.
- Nedbank Retail developed the NPay IT solution that allows debit card acceptance for a variety of transactions on the internet.
- Nedbank attracted 590 000 new clients (2007: 470 000) and now enjoys a primary client growth rate of 10% per year.
- The Green Shop in Mnquma in the Eastern Cape was established to provide a full range of custommade banking and financial products and services to the local communities.
- Building on the client benefits of the previous year’s reductions in bank charges, 2008 saw Nedbank keeping its average well below inflation and further simplifying its fee structures.
- Pick n Pay Go Banking was integrated into Nedbank’s core offering.
- Nedbank Corporate continued to focus on partnering with and developing South African SMEs as a way of contributing to job creation, income generation and overall economic growth.
- Various business initiatives were undertaken during the year with the specific aim of promoting enterprise development and BEE across the country.
SUSTAINABILITY GOALS FOR 2009
Nedbank Retail:
- Raise staff awareness of sustainability initiatives to encourage a change in behaviour and build sustainability ambassadors.
- Raise client and community sustainability awareness to position Nedbank as the leading green bank.
- Develop innovative propositions for retail clients that benefit the individual and the environment.
Nedbank Corporate and Business Banking:
- Further develop the provision of finance and business support for emerging companies with the aim of stimulating sustainable job creation and economic growth.
Nedbank Capital:
- Continue rigorous adherence to and detailed reporting of the Equator Principles for project finance transactions.
- Identify, fund and manage energy efficiency, alternative energy and renewable energy Clean Development Mechanism Projects.
- Identify and invest in biofuel projects.
